Acknowledgment of Country and First Nations People

I acknowledge and affirm the past and continuing presence of the Ngunnawal People, to whose stolen land my ancestors came, and where I work and live today. I pay my respects to the Elders: past, present and emerging. I also make special acknowledgement of the Bunuba and Walmajarri Elders, who guided, taught and mentored me toward a stronger understanding of country and culture.

I extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families and communities. I recognise and affirm the continuing strength, persistence, and resistance of all First Nations People, their languages, cultures and their dignity in the face of continuing trauma resulting from the ongoing effects of colonisation, settlement and displacement.

I affirm my commitment to continuing to learn about the unbreakable relationship between land, sea, sky and people. I recognise that the perspectives, knowledge, kinship and songlines of Australia's First Nations People are critical to informing education that prepares all children for a just, peaceful and fulfilling future.
